Re: Push down for reverse has lost its spring!
Brilliant, thanks for the help :ok Kit arrived from brickwerks today and looks good. Looking at the van the bit the spring sits on has totally gone! Hopefully relatively straight forward swap. Thanks for the advice and good work on the Wiki that stuff really helps. I'm off to have a few cow pies in ...

Re: Push down for reverse has lost its spring!
Thanks guys, had a quick look and CovKid think you might be right. Not doing bad for over 200,000 on the clock I suppose! Sounds like I might need one of these then http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php/t3-parts/t3-drivetrain/gearbox-transaxle/t3-manual/gear-lever-repair-kit-t3-14mm.html Thanks for ...

Re: Removing conversion studs from fronts
Turns out, its very easy! Locked a pair of nuts on and they wound out no bother, didn't look like they'd been put in with threadlocker though.

Removing conversion studs from fronts
Anyone got any experience doing this? I'm going back from alloys to steels and thought rather than faff around cutting the fronts down, I could just wind out the conversion studs that have been put in the front? This way I can go back to using the front bolts. I'll obviously have to cut down the rea...

Re: more power?
My van was a 1.7 and was converted (previous owner) to a 1.8 petrol mk2 golf gti engine. Goes very nicely, not faaaast but more than enough for me, does 70 fine and I get about 25mpg. I believe the engine goes straight on to g/box and just need to keep the diesel sump (sounds so simple huh!). Anyway...

Re: Catalytic converter?
:rofl yeah, not sure how that happened! Thanks again Aidan, the engine number is PB (3 or 0) 76 492, no idea what vehicle it came out of! I'll just have to put it in for the mot and see what they say, it got it's last one fine from last owner but you never know how friendly they are with the tester ...

Re: Which starter motor?
Thanks for the help
Sorted now, I actually got a re-manufactured one on exchange for £60! Seems like a bargain to me, it came from SMC in poole if anyone else needs one.
Cheers,
Vern

Re: Catalytic converter?
Revisiting this, a bit later... I've looked and I;ve definately a cat in there (from a subaru), the manifold looks like it might have once had some kind of probe in it but it's now just crumbling rust! Aiden, were you saying that it's post 1990 if its PB, or did they make PB digifants pre-199...

Which starter motor?
Hello everyone, I'd really appreicate a bit of help from those in the know! So, after a bit of welding and painting the time has come to get the van back on the road...except the starter motor is dead! Think it's the solenoid so first question - can you just replace this? If not, it's a new motor (o...

Nice to see that what I've been doing is along the same track as someone else!
What weld thru primer were you using and was it any good? I am not the greatest welder in the world but did really stuggle with the one I used (zinc one from frosts)
Good work anyhow

Re: Catalytic converter?
Hi and thanks for the reply. The engine is a 1.8 8v gti digifant, code PB although exact year is unknown. The problem is that the custom exhaust at present is falling to bits and I would like to get it sorted. If I could get rid of the cat it would make my life a lot easier! There is no wiring runni...
