Re: Leisure battery not charging from engine

Just in case anyone is still reading this thread... I gave up. Never did resolve the problem. Now sold the van on. Very disappointing experience. :(

Re: Leisure battery not charging from engine

I didn't know about the help list - I'll check it out. (Trouble is I'm not particularly close to anybody!) I'll have a look at the blue wire. Actually my blue wire has a second wire connected via a piggy-back clip on the same pin. Is that normal? Is there anywhere that can tell you what colour wires...

Re: Leisure battery not charging from engine

The correct relay with two 87 pins (and rated 40 amps) arrived this morning - just popped it in... Still no joy. :(

Think I may have to let the experts sort this out next week and let you know what they find.

Re: Leisure battery not charging from engine

You're dead right, Red Westie - the photo I posted doesn't show the schematic of the relay I ordered from Gunzl. I've had a look at it now, and it's definitely the wrong sort (87 / 87a). As it was described as being a relay for secondary batteries I assumed it would be right - clearly not... Live an...

Re: Leisure battery not charging from engine

Thanks Jonny Atlantic - just checked the relay Gunzl sent me and it does look wrong - the 87 pins are not connected. The Club Joker wiring diagram certainly seems to suggest they should be connected. I've ordered one of the other relays from the link on Brick Yard - I'll let you know how it goes. I'...

Re: Leisure battery not charging from engine

I don't think the battery is knackered - it charges from the mains hookup fine, and holds its charge well. And don't worry, I have no intention of going to Kwik fit - I've suffered at their hands before! I'm possibly being a bit thick, but I can't find this fuse. I've had a good poke around and ther...

Re: Leisure battery not charging from engine

To be honest I'm not sure if the relay I fitted is double contact or not. I ordered it from http://www.vwbusshop.de" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and it's described as being for a secondary battery (see below). Does that look right?

Where would I find the fuse?

Re: Leisure battery not charging from engine

Update: Volt meter confirms the battery isn't charging at all on engine, but charges fine on mains hookup (I knew that already...). Brand new relay installed today (under drivers seat, LHD) but exactly the same as before. Presuming now it's the wiring somewhere...? Meanwhile lots of recent rain has ...

Leisure battery not charging from engine

Bought a lovely Westy Club Joker hightop last week. I'm a bit puzzled by how the leisure battery is behaving. I drove the van 150 miles home on the day I bought it, but when I got home and checked the battery readout (on the display near the fridge) it was only showing an orange light. By Friday it ...

Re: Campervans4u.com

If anyone is still interested in this thread - we took the plunge and bought a lovely Club Joker from Andy at Campervans4u.com. I drove it back from Stansted on Wednesday and it's a pleasant drive. Good history and excellent bodywork. Only had it a couple of days, but enjoying it so far!

Could you let us know the name of the garage you found? That's not far from us, and a likely camping spot for us too!

Campervans4u.com

I'm in the market for a 4 berth T25 which isn't going to need much doing to it and isn't likely to be a headache to own. I've found http://www.campervans4u.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, which seems to have some really nice buses with plenty of history etc. Perhaps a l...

Re: T3 Oettinger conversion - what is it?

No, it's not sold. The ebay listing has just expired. I saw it today. Here's what the engine looks like if you're interested. There's plenty of paperwork from Oettinger to go with the work on the engine in 1988. The engine is registered as a 2.1 rather than a 1.9, so obviously they have enlarged the...
