Cruising at a steady 65mph (which is most of the driving I do in the van) I calculate my consumption as around 15-16mpg. These things should be capable of around 25mpg at that kind of speed. I want to keep mine as original as possible. Thanks for the link to the refurb kit - I might have a go at tha...

carb refurb (twin solex)

I'm probably not selling my van, but even if I do I'd like to sell it in the best condition possible. My mpg hasn't been very good as long as I've had the van and, having replaced all the fuel lines and fitted a new tank and filler-neck, I don't think there's a problem with fuel leaking anywhere. Th...

Take the clock out and mark it on the existing clock yourself... or just memorize the usual speed limits: 30mph = 48.3 (50) km/h 40mph = 64.4 (65) km/h 50mph = 80.5 (80) km/h 60mph = 96.6 (100) km/h 70mph = 112.7 (= 120 will be safe on a motorway) km/h It's not too difficult once you get used to it,...

Even Westfalia specs differ with age and model... some are better than others. I fitted a Syncro with Westfalia interior I sourced from Germany for a trip round Iceland. It wasn't a huge amount different in design to my Devon pop-topcamper, but I actually found the cupboards/storage of the Devon mor...

I expect this is why it's lasted so well, no? Unfortunately most Syncro owners probably do a lot more on-road than off-road driving.

Would you consider doing a cambelt service sticker? I've seen them in a few cars at shows, and as I currently have 4 VWs in need of a cambelt change quite soon...

To be perfectly honest i would just stick to a normal garage that you have had a good experience with and can trust. Last year I took my van to an air-cooled VW specialist in Devon for its MoT. They had my van for ages to do a few simple jobs, had crap customer service and charged a fortune. I've ju...

van2 for me (without looking). I'd always buy a van from the owner in preference to a dealer as they'll be able to tell you much more about its history, what's been changed and you'll get a much better sense of how well it has been looked after. Van 2 has all the appearance of being absolutely first...

All of these vans are old. The youngest will be 16 years old. Mine's 26 this year. Condition is much more important than age.

If that's the original paintwork then it looks like it could well be one of the best you'll see. The interior looks lovely (you can always recover the cushions). 1.9 is the most you'll get in a van that age... some people call it 2-litre, but that's only air-cooled engines in the earlier vans. Other...

As far as value goes, and what to pay: 1) look at several, this will give you a much better idea of what your money can get you. I saw about 10 vans before settling on the one I've got, and I knew from having driven and poked so many different vans that mine was worth the money 2) you should be payi...

The pop-top is Autosleeper style, but like the other guys I think it looks like the interior has been altered in the past. I had an original Autosleeper pop-top in the past and liked the conversion a lot.

I think there is already a site that allows you to search for VW specialists in your area and the garages are rated by users... I can't remember for the life of me what it's called. The problem with these is that the only people who review the garages tend to be the ones with an agenda... so lots of...

What you need is an Aircooled van... no pesky blower to get in the way!

No heat from the heaters either, mind...
