Re: AGG - basic requirements?
My conversion was an engine only. I had to purchase a lot of miscellaneous parts to finish the conversion. I will buy a donor for the next one. I will sell off what I don't use and scrap the rest. mark

Re: Engine change and keep auto box
The samba thread I linked above used an adapted mechanical pump. You are correct that you'd need to devise a way to control the automatic and the ECU via the pedal at the same time. It is not necessary to use a TDI that was an automatic originally in the conversion. But, in the North America market,...

Re: Engine change and keep auto box
This member on the Samba, mated an ALH TDI to an automatic transaxle. Unfortunately it looks like the picture links have died. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewto ... highlight=

Re: oil pressure ?? buzzer of doom
Laurence, you lost me. The dynamic oil pressure switch should be installed in the oil filter flange. This is where the oil pressure would be the highest. You get some pressure bleed off at the cylinder head because of the hydraulic injectors so you read lower pressure. I don't have my manual handy t...

Re: oil pressure ?? buzzer of doom
I use Shell Rotella Synthetic in my TDI. I believe it is 5w-40. There are a few things going on with oil temp and viscosity that affect pressure. First of all, all oils have about the same pouring viscosity at operating temperature. Choosing the proper viscosity oil is based on ambient temperature. ...

Re: oil pressure ?? buzzer of doom
Ok, general rule of thumb in psi. You'd like to see 10 psi for every 1000 rpm on any engine. Now, the dynamic pressure switch needs 1.8 bar to remain closed. There is also around a 2200 rpm requirement. So, based on your testing you are within the safe range of the engine and keeping the buzzer off....

Re: oil pressure ?? buzzer of doom
Hello, I don't know that you can just go by the color of the switch. The underside of the switches should have a part number and a working pressure stamped into them. I am looking at my World Pac Catalog. 1 pin Brown .3 Bar or Blue .25 Bar 028 919 081 H 1 pin White 1.8 Bar, this one controls the buz...

Re: oil pressure ?? buzzer of doom
The relief valve is in the oil pump pickup cover. You really should verify your oil pressure with an actual gauge when it is acting up. If the oil pressure is below spec at the threshold rpm, the buzzer will sound. You've already been advised how to disable the warning, but I would only do that once...

Re: oil pressure ?? buzzer of doom
My recommendation would be to check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge at the filter housing when it is acting up. Your warning system could be trying to warn you. Once you have verified the pressure, you can then work out the electrical glitch. It is possible in rare cases for the pressure re...

Re: 1y water warning light woes
In the North American market, at some point in production the main coolant expansion tank had a fluid level switch in the top that would flash the LED in the temp gauge if the coolant level dropped too low. Your's might have this option still.

Re: Petrol Rev counter tdi conversion ??
I have an ALH TDI installed in my Vanagon. I am getting an RPM signal for the stock tach from the ECU directly. It is only accurate at cruising rpm though. Faster or slower it is off some compared to my scan gauge. The trick and I can't explain it, is using a tach from an early van vs the later. I b...

Re: found a good TDI pedal!
This is a poor picture, but I am using a pedal from a 2000 Jetta. It has a plastic pedal. It was very uncomfortable and I ended up with a block of wood under my foot. I ended up using the vanagon pedal. I cut the back of it flush and filled with JB Weld epoxy. Once it was dry, I added a piece of Tef...

Re: Is there a definitive air-cooled to water-cooled thread?
A donor WBX would be handy for all the coolant bits. I believe there are some air cooled vans running around with watercooled engines without opening up the lower nose section and adding the second grill. The stock cooling system seems to be more than up to the task of cooling a TDI engine.

Re: gear shift wont engage reverse.
The manual is a bit confusing and there are two versions of shift rods. The adjustment is the same for both though. I have to think this through because I am familiar with left hand drive. Sitting in the driver's seat, selecting 3rd and 4th should require zero, side to side movement. If you are havi...
