Re: Big Brakes please
With kits you pay for the pleasure ,
I recently upgraded to 996 calipers and Mercedes 312 discs - total bill was around £600 including calliper adaptor and flexi lines and the always forgotten fluid. took about a day to fit and hour or so to turn down my hubs to accept the discs .

rythmic tapping under braking (sometimes)
I Hope someone can shed some light for me on this one , under braking occasionally , when coming to a stop only, I hear a rhythmic clonk/tapping noise - I have ruled out front and rear brakes , front wheel bearings and loose driveshaft/cv bolts - I can't find any loose bodywork or the like either. I...

Re: Heading down the Subaru route
Considering your using the vw gearbox , I presume, whether the donor is 4wd matters not . It will be fine , if it's auto you will need to get a few other bits to convert to manual - flywheel etc. I replaced all tensioners and belts on top of head gaskets while I had the engine out - puts my mind at ...

Re: The mystery of 1k miles and 3 fuel pumps
We'll , yesterday I stripped the tank out , removed the breather system Compressed air through every hose and hole . checked the function of valves , stop when upside down- open when normal , so no problem there. Checked tank and no obvious amounts of crap I there , a few dust particles but that's i...

Re: The mystery of 1k miles and 3 fuel pumps
How did you diagnose a blocked breather ? I have removed the tank today , pulled all the breather hoses off and blown through them l I can't detect any obvious blockage. Pipes were arranged as per standard from Bentley . I have drained the tank and will clean the outside and inspect the inside tomor...

Re: The mystery of 1k miles and 3 fuel pumps
Yeah tank -> pump -> filter -> engine , couldn't make tank replicate the fuel flow stoppages today and pump that was dying yesterday is behaving today. Checked the breather hoses ! Too hard to see what's going on , need to drop the tank and replace the scabby old hoses . Can't find anywhere stocking...

Re: The mystery of 1k miles and 3 fuel pumps
Interesting , didn't even think about breather issues , will try that today and see if Cavitation noise dissapears . Now I didn't change the breather system from the old diesel ones , perhaps I should have

The mystery of 1k miles and 3 fuel pumps
We'll just made it back from Somerset , this journey killed 2 fuel pumps ! Bit of background , skip ahead for the main issues : Subaru EJ25 conversion from jx lump , new tank , pump , fuel lines , rjes kit etc. within 500 miles first fuel pump started making cavitating noises and eventually got real...

Re: Change of cylinder capacity on v5, engine number required??

Re: Is it my Thrust bearing causing the noise?
Possibly input shaft bearing on its way out ? Makes sense if the only time the noise stops is when the clutch is disengaged

Re: Subaru Power steering question
EJ25 pipes knocked up by pirtek for £160 and are spot on , no noise unless at full lock , imho it feels miles better than the power steering from the jx but then i think my pump was on its way out .
