Re: Gear selection out
Been having similar problems myself and in my case the culprit appears to be the oval shaped mounting for the gear lever bearing. One of the two bolts had gone awol so the mounting was free to rotate every now and again. Sometimes 1st and reverse difficult and other times 5th not wanting to play. As...

Re: Eberspacher revival? Reading area
Oue '89 westy eberspacher has been on my fix list for quite a long time. Ideally looking for someone who could have a look at getting it working again...? Problems started with failing to light - when switched on, relay clicked and power drawn, and fan came on, then after a few seconds it would let...

Re: Eberspacher heater using old controls westfalia new heater
Have a look here B2L files . Especially the one saying troubleshooting manual. Dont worry that the page says it is for B2L (petrol) versions as the actual manuals cover the D2L diesels too. Am assuming you have the D2L not a D2 going by your sons previous post but if you really want the D2 try ...

Re: Rear brake spring
Thanks Maxstu for the video link. Have bought lots of parts from Brickwerks over the years but didn't know they did videos too! Also make sure the adjuster levers are on the right way round as I'm sure I've seen that mentioned causing issues before. By that I mean the fork with the longer arm and ...

Re: Alternator wire ?
Sorry - you're right - those early air cooled engines don't have that box on the left hand back wall looking into the engine bay. The later ones that is where many of the electrical connections between the looms live. Been a long while since I last had a good look inside one. Tried looking at pho...

Re: Alternator wire ?
Blue wire should go via a single terminal connector close to the alternator and from there off to a multiplug in the relay box in the engine compartment. According to the diagram in the green Haynes Aircooled book that is a 4 way multiplug connecting to the loom going up front to the dash and the ...

Re: JX Engine - lack of boost - suspect LDA
Just an update - went for a complete replacement in the end as didn't trust the rebuilt one I made up with the kit. The diaphragm in the old one was definitely perished when I opened it up. With the kit I first drilled holes around the edge of the can before opening it. Quite difficult for me eve...

Re: JX Engine - lack of boost - suspect LDA
My understanding is that all the JX LDAs now come from Dieselkontor.de as they own the machine that makes them. Their list price is also the cheapest and they offer different versions for different types of vehicles. However, you’ll probably find that the total cost with import duties works out the...

Re: JX Engine - lack of boost - suspect LDA
Thanks. So it does sound that I definitely have a leak as if I put finger over spigot to block it the it just returns back when pulled out. Parts should be here on Thursday. Good shout on the soldering iron but have ordered a set of leather punches. The whole assembly is now off van. Instructions in...

JX Engine - lack of boost - suspect LDA
Few questions to help me learn about a new to me JX engine. Last van was 1Z TDI engine so completely different and I know that one had too much power for its own good!. Main symptoms last week were no power up hills. The drive back home after picking up van showed I could cruise along the flats...
