Re: Rear brake spring

Thanks Maxstu for the video link.  Have bought lots of parts from Brickwerks over the years but didn't know they did videos too! Also make sure the adjuster levers are on the right way round as I'm sure I've seen that mentioned causing issues before.  By that I mean the fork with the longer arm and ...

Is this any help?   Had it saved as I want to fit that kit too when I get round to it.

Re: Alternator wire ?

Sorry - you're right - those early air cooled engines don't have that box on the left hand back wall looking into the engine bay.  The later ones that is where many of the electrical connections between the looms live.   Been a long while since I last had a good look inside one. Tried looking at pho...

Re: Alternator wire ?

Blue wire should go via a single terminal connector close to the alternator and from there off to a multiplug in the relay box in the engine compartment.   According to the diagram in the green Haynes Aircooled book that is a 4 way multiplug connecting to the loom going up front to the dash and the ...

Re: JX Engine - lack of boost - suspect LDA

Just an update - went for a complete replacement in the end as didn't trust the rebuilt one I made up with the kit.  The diaphragm in the old one was definitely perished when I opened it up.  With the kit I first drilled holes around the edge of the can before opening it.  Quite difficult for me eve...

Re: Gearbox codes

Try this here  Gearbox Codes My old van which came from factory with a CS engine in about 1983 had code DY if that helps Also if you look under the steering column to one side there should be a white paper sticker with serial number and a load of other info like engine/transmission codes and other o...

Re: JX Engine - lack of boost - suspect LDA

My understanding is that all the JX LDAs now come from Dieselkontor.de as they own the machine that makes them. Their list price is also the cheapest and they offer different versions for different types of vehicles. However, you’ll probably find that the total cost with import duties works out the...

Re: JX Engine - lack of boost - suspect LDA

Thanks. So it does sound that I definitely have a leak as if I put finger over spigot to block it the it just returns back when pulled out. Parts should be here on Thursday. Good shout on the soldering iron but have ordered a set of leather punches. The whole assembly is now off van. Instructions in...

JX Engine - lack of boost - suspect LDA

Few questions to help me learn about a new to me JX engine.  Last van was 1Z TDI engine so completely different and I know that one had too much power for its own good!.   Main symptoms last week were no power up hills.   The drive back home after picking up van showed I could cruise along the flats...

Re: Westfalia fridge seal

Was sure I saw a grey seal the other day when searching for an element.   Can't remember which site or if a UK one. Could have been Serial Combi in France  Serial Combi Seal Also I see one is on German eBay  Fridge Seal   which looks like it is in Poland but can ship to UK. I've not ordered from EU ...

Re: BBB charger unit packed in

Sounds like the same as my last van.  Didn't work when I bought it over 15 years ago.  Sorted the thermal fuse and it gave me no problems until the end of my ownership over 10 years later.   Just got another Westy now which still has the BBB.  Not yet got round to testing it as first thing I did was...

Re: No parking light on an 84 westy

My 83 Joker had no handbrake or fluid warning lights - just a blanking plate.  Just got a 1986 Club Joker and this is exactly the same.  This one certainly spent its live in Germany as I have the paperwork up to when it was imported.

Re: Westfalia high top rear hatch leak

Good news is you caught it before it got worse :-) As you found duct tape over the rear hatch does not help. I tried that and could see it coming in above that area. I also resealed the skylights to rule those out.  I think you are on the right track thinking it is getting under the sealant on the s...

Re: Need to reduce boost as get-me-home 1z engine

Thanks for replies guys. Went for a short drive yesterday and looks like pulling the n75 electrical connector has helped. No vacuum connection on the pump with this engine and it looks like I need the n75 hoses connected or else wastegate stays shut giving me full boost and no protection from overbo...
