That does look cheap for what it is Previous owner of my van fitted a similar one but it is by VDO and has an analogue display.  Those cost a lot more and the sender unit itself is more than twice your complete package is. Well done - I did the same on my last van about 15 years ago.  That one had a second hand that when the capacitors failed the hand seemed to go one second forward then one back.  After the capacitors replaced it kept better time than the digital ones in two modern cars I had in that time. 

Been having similar problems myself and in my case the culprit appears to be the oval shaped mounting for the gear lever bearing.
