Re: Temperature gauge
I had this problem when I fitted a non-OEM sensor in the expansion tank. Only the tips of the two sensor probes were exposed (about 0.5 inch of metal), the rest was protected by hard plastic. On the Brickwerks ones the probes are fully exposed (about 3 inches of metal). The light on the dash would o...

Re: Does it matter if I fit a different alternator?
The alternator the garage fitted is a Bosch 0-986-034-230, rated at 14V 65A. The pulley had to be swapped over and the shaft sticks out an inch beyond the pulley. It was about £115. Seems fine!

Does it matter if I fit a different alternator?
My 1989 wasserboxer has a Bosch 65A alternator fitted (025 903 023B). This seems to be an unusual alternator for the van and I can't find a direct replacement. Does it matter if I fit a 45A or 90A part? The van has a leisure battery but no other big current drains (no foglights). Any suggestions? I ...

Re: LED rear lights
Not worth it. I took the reflectors off and really cleaned them in soapy water which cleaned quite a lot of crap from the inside, that DID make a difference!

T25 seat restoration in Bristol?
I have a 1989 T25 with original captains seats (driver and passenger). Can anyone recommend a workshop in Bristol or thereabouts which will do a complete restoration (rebuild and recover) of the driver and passenger seats, headrests and folding arms? I would like to replace the fabric with the origi...

BG 44K fuel system cleaner?
A chap I would normally regard as sane has recommended I try BG 44K for the Golf. I'm not a believer in snake oil but he's a level-headed and sceptical person like myself.
Has anyone else tried the stuff? Any good?

Re: Renewing gear selector fork bushes - advice requested!
do you know if it's a socket or wrench and what size? I used a socket with a spanner on the other side to stop the bolt turning. Can't remember the size, probably 13mm. if i am lying on my back with my head towards the front of the van, lifting my head up, able to see the light under the rear, two ...

Re: Renewing gear selector fork bushes - advice requested!
Just a quick question to those who know, is it possible when you loosen the clamp bolt, regarding the shaft, can you turn it one spline with your hand, or an oil strap wrench tightened up on it? Thanks. You will need a wrench on the shafts on each side of the clamp bolt. Don't think an oil strap wr...

I was pointing to the header tank... he knew which one I meant. Although maybe he thought that one WAS the expansion tank, hadn't thought of that.1664 wrote:probably means the tank behind the number plate flap = 'expansion tank'?

Header tank coolant level - why is there a 'min' level?
I've always believed the header tank should always be FULL to the brim under all circumstances, cold or hot. Excess coolant transfers to and from the burp tank. My garage say that it's okay if there's some air above the coolant in the header tank "that's why the 'min' level is marked on there s...
