Re: Battery keeps dying

I had similar symptoms a few years ago. It was a faulty glow plug relay. The battery would go down to the point that the relay dropped out, then the drain through the glow plugs would stop. I'm not saying that's definitely what your problem is, but worth having a look. To find out, connect a 12V bu...

Re: Bosch Pump leaking

If it's the seal round the throttle spindle, I seem to remember others saying it can be done in situ, saving a load of work. I've never done this myself though. You do have to be careful to keep the exact position on the splines, or you will lose the settings. Perhaps someone who's done it will be a...

Is this what you're looking for? Check the size though, they do all different sizes.

Re: engine upgrade to AFN 1.9TDI

Changed my engine 13 years ago from CS to AEF. I notified DVLA by filling in the relevant bits of the V5.They wanted a receipt and documentary evidence of the change from an established motor trader on headed paper. I'd bought the engine cash without a receipt and installed it myself. I told them I'...

Units on ply. There may come a time when the carpet gets damaged/out of fashion 😃, and you want to change it.
Don't bother insulating between ribs. Air gap is insulation in itself.
Use marine ply. The normal ply they sell now delaminates if it gets wet.

I agree. The tags can be bent back and the motors pulled apart. It's often just the brushes fallen apart. I used brushes from an old Scalectrix car motor which were identical. Fiddly old job, but has lasted 5 years.

Re: Alternator field collapse?

Just an update: I recently disassembled the alternator. The problem was caused by the aluminium shim (strip from a beer can) I added before to reduce the play between the plastic bearing retainer cage and the housing. The shim walked out and shorted the diodes. But immediately vaporized so the char...

Re: Anyone used their OEM jack successfully?

I've often used the OEM jack, by itself just to quickly change a wheel, but always in conjunction with axle stands or wood blocks in the garage for maintenance. If used with knowledge of their shortcomings they are about as good or bad as most flimsy jacks. And yes, make sure the handbrake is firmly...

Re: Starter motor- Random starting wows

Before you split the engine and box, might be worth checking the one way clutch in the pinion assembly. You should be able to rotate the pinion smoothly in one direction but shouldn't rotate the other way at all. If it feels gritty when rotated that may be your problem. Or may not but if it is, migh...

Re: Pop Top Improvement

It's an Autohomes Kamper. We bought one 20 years ago and one of the early projects was to replace the pop top with a home brew which was a lot lighter and more aerodynamic, and which reduced fuel consumption by an amazing 7 percent. At that time there was company which would replace these pop-tops, ...

Re: Broken down, fuel filter problem

It's not really possible to clean out the filter and reuse it. Trying to clean it would inevitably liberate muck to the clean side, which would then head for the injectors. You might get away with it, or might not. I would say the only satisfactory solution would be to remove the tank, clean it out ...
