Re: Rear jacking point repair.
Wow, that is some robust repair! Encouraging and demoralising - what levels of evil rustiness lurk within our voids that we pretend are not there?? And yet a great step by step real world ‘story’ - many thanks for posting your second side’s work. Regarding your posting of photos - are they uploaded...

Re: Rear jacking point repair.
Right.....I've got the pictures uploaded to my old website, by kind permission of the new keeper.... After repairing the left rear jacking point, I had a poke around inside the cills with my boroscope, and could see corrosion around the right side one as well. Nothing showing from outside, except an...

Re: Rear jacking point repair.
Reading this with real interest @colinthefox, thanks for your original post on this repair. I hope there's a photo posting solution that lets you upload the second repair, as there's hopefully a few extra tips based on your experience. I'm a bit of a body repair novice and will need to tackle this ...

Re: Rear jacking point repair.
OK, so as promised, it's time to write up the same job on the offside............ But there's a problem. The image upload options are either Imgur. And we all know that won't work for UK users at present. Link to a URL. And my website is currently being sold, so from now on I'll probably have nowher...

Re: stuck rear brake drum
I had this problem many years ago. I guessed that I'd have to replace the drums anyway, so cut the steel plate part of the drum all round with angle grinder/slitting disk. Thanks for the reply, - this sounds a bit drastic, but it may come to this. The brakes are due an overhaul! I was wondering if ...

Re: stuck rear brake drum
I had this problem many years ago. I guessed that I'd have to replace the drums anyway, so cut the steel plate part of the drum all round with angle grinder/slitting disk. Once I'd removed that, I could get at everything inside quite easily. Drastic, but least expensive sacrifice. E D I T ..forgot t...

Re: Radius Rod removal
What’s the best method to remove these ? If they are the kind with the large hex at the back end you will need a 27mm open ended spanner, but there's a bit more to it. I used a 1+1/16 AF vintage tractor spanner which is a real beast of an open ender, and a jack to rotate it, after applying lots of...

Re: Help! Timing belt creeping off cog
I've had a VW cambelt running off-true in the past. My problem was that I didn't renew the tensioner. I discovered that if I disturbed the cambelt for any reason, the tensioner would settle in a different alignment when reset. Kind of difficult to explain.

Re: Solar trickle charger
I also use similar sized panels via home made float charging modules (one for each battery) set at 13.7 volts. These keep 5 batteries fully charged over winter, and my batteries last much longer. My truck battery is 11 years old and still starting a diesel (just!) I can give details of the float cha...

Re: Welding
Learn to weld. Definitely. Being able to weld has saved me thousands over many years. I also now weld heritage diesel rail locos bodywork as a hobby as all my vehicles are done.🙂 I went to welding classes then bought myself a MIG welder, helmet, etc. Sometimes frustrating, but always worth the effor...

Re: speedo cable
It could be that the little square hole in the grease cap on the left side is not driving the square end of the speedo cable inner consistently. If that's the case then you could try peening the area of the hole with a hammer against a lump of metal, to make it a better fit. Once it's working OK, se...
