DRLA 40 installation
Hello folks, long time no see. I had to abandon my project for a while but I am back into it now and keen to get the ol girl back on the road. Got a 2.0l Aircooled and managed to pick up a pair of DRLA 40 carbs. My friendly local tune-up chap said I need to modify the manifolds so that I can add the...

Re: Hydraulic lifters adgustment (STILL)
Cheers MM, I do have one but clearly not a very good one if they are supposed to grip the plug. I usually have to play, "can I unscrew the last bit of thread with longnose pliars, and keep it gripped until its clear of the tinware".... usually no, no i cannot.

Re: Hydraulic lifters adgustment (STILL)
cheers kev, the plugs are in, i usually leave the in while turning the engine, but i guess it would relieve pressure by taking them out (?) I shall give it a whirl ta! Really need a magnet on a stick, i always drop plugs 1 and 4 before they escape the tin ware.
Thanks again kev!

Re: Hydraulic lifters adgustment
sorry cygnak, didn't see your last post, cheers for that. Its been another month and I've still not found the time to get this sorted, bloody life getting in the way of everything  Finally got onto it today, but I cannot adjust the lifters now, because the engine will not crank over! It turns ...

Re: Hydraulic lifters adgustment
Thanks a lot Kev, much appreciated! Am I correct in thinking it is actually too late for a preliminary compression test now, considering i messed up the rocker arms, so exact reassembly is unlikely? Presuming that is the case, would you still order a compression tester just to see what it is post se...

Hydraulic lifters adgustment (STILL)
I got the rocker arms all mixed up for my 2.0l ac, and I am possibly going to have to win out the adjusters anyway as suggested by vanjam ( here ) as I had trouble reassembling the rocker arms last time. So I am going to have to adjust the lifters, which is no bad thing I am sure! But I have read th...

Re: rocker assembly
Thanks a lot vanjam. I did forget to mention it was a 2.0l ac, bad form I know! I shall have another go tomorrow and make sure the rods are centered properly. Definately got them the right way up adjustable end to valve stems, but thanks. I'm not entirely sure what you mean in point 3, the only slot...

rocker assembly
following on from a thread (somewhere), I managed to de-thread the rods that the rocker assembly bolt onto, and then managed to break my thumb so I couldnt finish the job (amusing way to keep me off the road .......again  ) Anyway, de-threaded rods removed, new rods ready for reassembly, so ho...

Re: De-threaded rods...
Cheers chaps,
I didn't use m8 bolts, i just reused the ones i removed as they appeared to be in good condition, i am really not sure how i managed the thread them, but nevermind. I shall give those methods a whirl tomorrow and hopefully get the beggers off!
Thanks again!

De-threaded rods...
How do all! Once again a simplish job turns into a ruddy palaver  Today I finally got round to changing my push rod tube seals and when reassembling the rocker assembly, I've managed to de-thread the threaded rods that hold the rocker arms on. Really didnt feel like I was cross-threading them,...

Re: CU Distributor (again), now not starting :(
Thanks again Boxy! The chap was true to his word, and got it running, I've had a bit of a tweak since as it still wasn't idling when warm and now its driving (and pausing at junctions) beautifully!
Really appreciate all the help and encouragement you've been giving me! It's been emotional

Re: CU Distributor (again), now not starting :(
Still having trouble. I found the source of the pulsing and struggling idle, the float in the right hand carb was sitting too high, cutting off the valve that allows fuel in permanently, so it was only running on 2 cylinders basically! So got that sorted, and bit the bullet to get the carbs t...

Re: CU Distributor (again), now not starting :(
Ok cheers Boxy. The HT leads are definately in the right order and plugged in tightly. When it was idling it was pulsing from about 610RPM to 780RPM and back again and up and down in between all in the space of about 4 seconds. I know that it should be 4-6ATDC at 750rpm but say if i can get it at a ...

Re: CU Distributor (again), now not starting :(
Right, a quick update! This might be a bit vague, so apologies for that, but hopefully it will be clear enough to spawn a few fresh ideas. Finally got round to testing the spark, and discovered that the plugs are already caked in black soot (presumably due to the poor carburetor set up) so I cleaned...
