Front left hand inner CV boot replacement
Is it possible to just undo the six bolts securing the inner CV joint to the diff, drop the joint down, remove the circlip on the shaft, slide the CV joint off and replace the boot?

Any instructions for late Friday arrival at Coney?
I've printed the instructions and map, and can see the "C" for camping. Having never been there before is there anything to note when getting to the site a mile up the B4194 on the left......e.g. driving through a farm yard or keeping well away from any farm etc? Cheers, Paul (I've checked...

Re: Summer diesel waxing risk - add petrol?
For HarryMann - The definitive answer - from a mate's July 1986 VW Transporter Instructiom Manual (The VW supplied glovebox manual) pages 64 and 65: When neccesary summer and winter Diesel can be used at lower temperatures by mixing regular leaded or lead-free petrol (not premium) with Diesel. As th...

Re: Summer diesel waxing risk - add petrol?
Many thanks for your replies - since the fuel could be in the system for a long time, I'll try to get some additive. If I'm ever at the roadside on a journey, I'll have no hesitation in adding some petrol to get me going again.
Cheers,
Paul

Summer diesel waxing risk - add petrol?
I've still got half a tank after filling up in August - should I add 2 litres of petrol to avoid waxing problems. I've looked on the internet and spotted various conflicting advice, the most repeated is that 5% to 10% petrol should be added to summer grade diesel to prevent waxing. Guidance relevant...

Re: Jammed JX 1.6td wastegate
After more penetrating oil, blow torch and tapping, what i believe to be the wastegate valve will now rotate on it's seating (so I guess it has to be a disc rather than a toilet seat, but I still can't make the spindle rotate - any ideas on whether it's usually the spindle that sticks; and if so, how...

Jammed JX 1.6td wastegate
I've disconnected the actuator rod and removed the exhaust, spent several days with penetrating fluid trying to twist the actuator rod with a spanner and tonight a few sharp blows to the edge of the toilet seat valve with a rod and hammer, but can't free it off. Is it usually the spindle that siezes...

Re: Head gasket question
When I changed my JX 1.6td head gasket, I noticed that some holes in the gasket were smaller than the cast cooling passages by varying amounts (and in one or two places no hole in the gasket so the channel blocked). I assumed that the engine had been designed with the full size passages, then the co...

Re: jx head gasket leak
Is it losing water? On mine if I took the blue cap off before starting it (if in good order, the tank should be absolutely full), then started the engine, when revving it a bit, the water level drops a little and rises back up as it reduces back to tickover, which is normal, however I had a slow but...

Re: jx head gasket leak
Head gaskets can blow in different ways. I took mine to an expert who used a sniffer (to detect exhaust gas in the coolant), the sniffer fluid didn't change colour so he said the gasket had to be ok.......but still mine would throw all the water out after 15 miles on the motorway - the main giveaway...

Re: Siezed turbo waste gate 1.6 JX
Many thanks, I've had very little experience with turbo's, I might take the exhaust off to see if I can access the waste gate itself, otherwise get expert help.

Siezed turbo waste gate 1.6 JX
Is it ok to disconnect the actuator rod and tap the end of the lever with a hammer, how hard can I hit It? Should I spray wd40 where the spindle enters the turbo and leave it overnight?

Re: Overheating!
My 1.6td was doing the same thing very repeatedly after 15 miles, I tried flushing and bleeding the system many times, new thermostat, driving it without a thermostat etc with no success. Changing the head gasket cured it. Once you've bled the cooling system, if when you remove the expansion tank ca...
