Re: 1Y Oil Pressure issue
Nah the oil level seems fine.
I think it's a tick over thing. I'm gonna try winding out the idle screw on the fuel pump to see if that helps.

1Y Oil Pressure issue
HI there, This spring I replaced my knackered CS engine with a 1Y. Everything seems fine engine starts and runs perfectly. However once the engine has warmed up, if I pull up at a junction I'm sat idling the oil light will flicker on. Giving the engine a few revs makes the light go off again, but it...

Re: Gear change issues
Yeah used the same mount and used the gear shifter from the old gearbox. Have found out that there should be a rubber bellows on that linkage, but not sure how much difference that would make, didn't have it on the old setup. Maybe I should get the van up on a ramp and check that non of the linkage ...

Re: Gear change issues
Thanks Aidan, I had a feeling that might be the case. So if I got a selector lever for a petrol and fitted it then it'll work ok or is there anything else I need to change?
Would that also explain why I having difficulties finding some of the other gears?
Scotty

Gear change issues
Hi there. I've just replaced my 1.6D CS engine and 8L gearbox with a 1Y and APP gearbox. Everything is ok apart from I'm having problems with the gear linkage. When I put the van into reverse the the gear shift joint (ball bit on the side of the gearbox) slips out of the selector lever (cup bit at t...

Re: Replacement for my 1.6D
Sorry to revive an old thread but I just though I'd let you all know what I've decided to do. That way if any of you think I'm mad you can shout before I spend any more money. Anyway I've gone for a 1Y engine which I managed to get from a local scrap yard. They promise me the engine was running fine...

1X Engine
As you might know from my earlier post I need to upgrade my 1.6D his winter. I have been offered a 1.9D 1X engine for £450. Is this exactly the same as the 1Y or are there differences I should be looking out for? Is it the same power and performace as a 1X?

Re: Replacement for my 1.6D
Finally got round to crawling under my van to find out the gearbox code. Turns out I have an 8L, so slightly better ratio than that of the 1.7D but not by much. I'm gonna have a word with Aidan Talbot about new gearsets which should make give me the sort of comfortable cruising speeds I'm after. For...

Re: Replacement for my 1.6D
Ok check gearbox right got it, thanks covdubber :ok Doesn't escape from the fact that my engine is a pile of unreliable, powerless, smokey, oil drinking rubbish though. It WILL be coming out this winter!!! It is a weekender van but I'm not bothered by getting around really fast in it, that's what my...

Re: Replacement for my 1.6D
my 1y wouldnt be happy at 70 ..more like 60 all day.but gets there better than the 1.6. i think you might be better off with the aaz if your going diesel but you need turbo diesel parts to do the swap That's kinda what I thought I'd get with the 1Y. I currently don't have the TD parts I need to go ...

Re: Replacement for my 1.6D
Thanks for that, but what I really wanna know is how the 1Y will perform in a van. I want something that will be happy doing 70 odd on the motorway and will pull me up hill without struggling to much. Will a good 1Y give me that or will I be better off with one of the GTI engines?

Replacement for my 1.6D
Hi There. I bought my first van back in August this year, a 1985 1.6D (CS engine code) with a 5 speed box. The engine is tired and smokey and I plan to replace it over the winter. I've looked at various options and I was wondering what the more experinced owners out there would recommend. My options...
