Are they standard van alloys? tyre size is 185x14C, ie commercial van tyres also fitted were 215/70x14C but I dont think you can get these now(I could be wrong!). If you are using non standard alloys you will have to use car tyres, many do without probs.

New coolant has a 'searching' effect, any weak point & it will find it. Dont put any Radweld in tho, you may get away with a small leak for a while or you may not.

I have heard last resort is to hammer a 12mm socket onto the bolt head. Make sure you tighten the new ones to 33lbs/ft or they will come loose.

Before you start spending money, remove top half of carb-can be done in situ--clean out float bowl & blast out all jets with aerolsol carb cleaner--you could replace gasket between the 2 halves but base gasket should be ok if you leave bottom half in place--

Check the rubber collar behind fuel cap that connects to tank pipe, these perish & leak--also check rubber pipes on expantion tanks in front wheel arches-they also perish.

Sounds like somebody has fitted a left hand drive gearstick--or the existing one broke(as they sometimes do) & it was welded together badly--I think you can still order new gearsticks from a VW main agent--
