apparently if you can get them off (i cant) you can tighten the nut inside to prevent this

anyone got any tips on reseting the gear linkage on 1980 air cool 4 sp box, cant actually see what holds the rear shift rod bracket to the gear selection lever the one with the 2 plastic ball type things attached to the gear box i can see how it slides in but what holds it in place???
