Greatest car ever built

According to the American "Outside Magazine" this is the greatest car ever built, and another mention of Tom Hanks and his "syncro addiction" for anyone who hasn't seen this interview. http://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/camping/car-camping/The-Greatest-Car-Ever-Built....

Re: MV Engine solution required!

Mine is a MV and I had a similar problem - when the engine warmed it would start running roughly eventually stalling. This was caused by the plug to the temperature sensor at the back left of the engine being corroded - and thus the ECU assumed the engine was cold even when warm. I don't know if you...

Re: Diesel Rev Counter vs Petrol Rev Counter

What a fabulous answer - thank you! Proves mine is a diesel set. Not sure I want to spend £125 on a new one though, unless a diesel one would cost the same?!

Diesel Rev Counter vs Petrol Rev Counter

All, I think a previous owner of my 2.1l petrol syncro caravelle has replaced the dashboard with one from a diesel vehicle, as there is a lamp for glow plug coils and the rev counter simply bounces around idiotically. On the back of the rev counter there is a sticker with lots of numbers on it - I w...

howmayleft? Not very many by the looks of it...

http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?q=volkswagen+syncro but it is curious to see how many there are out there of various random vehicles, and to see how many new registrations there are, eg.. http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/ford_fiesta Just for fun (not convinced by some of the records though) Jeremy.

Eberspacher heater - exhaust and inlet routing

Having just fixed my eberspacher petrol heater I'm looking for some hints on where to route the exhaust outlet and combustion air inlet - considering on a syncro it may be bashed from underneath or worse submerged in muddy water. Has anyone here routed these to avoid this?

Re: Power Steering Arm - different for syncros?

Chillia - thanks for the link. Power steering now fitted and working - and it's the best thing ever! (Thanks to T25direct for his help - and Lewis for doing the hard graft and fitting it for me). It's transformed the van - and makes parking so much easier. Only disadvantage is that I won't be lookin...

Re: 2.1dj Engine issues. Help.

Had similar symptoms on mine - that turned out to be a broken wire in the temperature sender to the ECU. Back left hand side of the engine bay, two wire plug. Can take photos later to help identify.

Re: Power Steering Arm - different for syncros?

That's what I'd feared... still if Ayrton Senna's welded his steering arm, no reason not too....

Power Steering Arm - different for syncros?

I've just "upgraded" my LHD T3 syncro from standard steering to power steering, but when fitting it I've come across a problem. I bought the kit from ebay ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250724696327&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT ). However the power steering 'ste...

Re: Fault finding from afar - newly bought syncro

Thought I'd give a quick update as I've finally got the van it's english registration plates (thanks DVLA)! Good news - the fault that was upsetting the previous owner so much was simply a broken wire on the temperature sender to the 'Digifant' box. Fixed that and it runs like a dream. Bad news - ha...

Re: Would anyone like a pair of used VW seats?

Ah, very good point - they were in the back of the van when I bought it looking like they had been in the front! Thanks for the insights. Fingers crossed I make it to Van Fest next year, needing to buy a copy of a Haynes manual to work out the wiring for the fog lights I need to fit so that mine can...

Would anyone like a pair of used VW seats?

Hello In the back of my "new" Syncro I have the two seats, both looking worse for wear. One appears to be electric, in the sense that it has buttons and wires coming out of it, the other seems normal. If anyone wants them they're welcome to them - I'm in Cambridge. In exchange, or if anyon...

Re: Fault finding from afar - newly bought syncro

Thanks everyone for your replies - I am just back from an epic voyage across the continent which started at 6am Saturday morning and continued non-stop until back home 4pm on Sunday, driving through the night. To answer the question of what vehicle, I chose a long wheel based rear wheel drive 2.4l t...

Re: Fault finding from afar - newly bought syncro

Apparently it is road legal (has TUV) and Adrian Flux will insure it from a chassis number and also do European breakdown cover for an extra £80 - think that most European cover is only for new or new-ish vehicles. Thanks for the offer of a translation - I have a German friend who did me the transla...
