I had the same prob. Get underneath and run along the selector rod until you find an expansion joint, undo the clamp around it and slide it out no more ethan 1/8 inch. This in effect lengthens the selector rod and pivots the gear knob back away from the dash. If you move it too far though you may ha...

Think you misunderstand me. If the van is rolling to a stop then no problemo you can get first. But if your stopped, it wont go in till you select second and then throw it forwards to first. I would hope no vehicle would go in to first whilst movin!

I'd use ones that fit through the holes you already have in the bracket!! make sure they are high tensile though and use large over size washers to help spead the load

dunno why everyone jumps to a compression test!! Start at the beginning with basics, if you only have a weak spark check your dizzy components ie/ points condensor rotor arm and more importantly plug leads. I had the same fault but only with one cyl (no3) and it was the lead. If they are the same as...

think i have sorted it. comp does not come in to question as i have new cylinders and pistons etc. it appears to have been the plug lead. i couldn't swap them about because of the lenghts etc not reaching when i looked at the dist end the connection was relying on a brass crimp with a spike for want...
