Re: VDO Mounting Bracket

That's lovely, thanks, both. I tend to prefer the one with the gauges in the side of the dash rather than sitting proud, if it's not too fiddly to achieve. Is that a 'dash tidy' too or a bespoke creation?

VDO Mounting Bracket

In order to monitor a bit better what's going on, I'm thinking of installing an additional bank of 3 x 52mm VDO gauges (boost, oil temp and oil pressure). Happy with all that but just need somewhere to mount them on the stock dash in a reasonably ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing way. Can anyone ...

Re: How to check if something is drawing on my battery

Have you got an Eberspaecher heater? The control unit for these draws a little bit of current. I have taken the fuse out of mine as I rarely use it.

Re: 12v Fridge with ignition

If I understand the question, you have got a supply for the fridge that is live with 12V when the engine is running (and presumably is dead the rest of the time). This implies that there is a relay upstream activated by the field signal from the alternator, closing the relay when the engine runs. Yo...

Re: Adding a ctek charger - to just leisure battery or both?

I read that lead/acid batteries do not like being cycled and last best when 'floated' at a moderate Voltage (13.7, say). Clearly when you are driving your van the alternator is putting out well over 14V, but this is only for limited durations and may drop depending on how many devices are in use. Pu...

Westy started jumping out of gear

Into neutral from 4th and 5th, while under acceleration at mid-revs. It did it a few times over the weekend and had never done it before in the 15 years I have had it. It's not doing it all the time but something is clearly amiss. Is this likely to be a sign that the gearbox is on the way out intern...

AAZ Pumps - have they *ALL* got straight boost pins?

I know there are at least 14 injection pumps for the AAZ engine. Word is that they have (mostly?) got straight boost pins such that there is effectively no extra fuelling on boost despite movement of the pin. There is a well known mod to fit a 'GTD' or Rover 2200 chamfered boost pin. Question is: do...

Re: AAZ Cold Start Solenoid?

Yes, possibly: I'm looking to change my pump with immediate effect. I've been given some part numbers for viable AAZ pumps, but the 1.6 JX set-up is also an option. I've put a wanted post on here with the details.

Re: Fitting JX Electric Water Pump

Yes, all done. I bought the pump on eBay IIRC along with a mounting bracket. I bought the sender unit from some VW online shop. I also bought a JX wiring loom from someone on here. I discarded most of it but used the relevant lines and connectors. I can't remember if I used his old relay or bought a...

Re: Attaching Khyam Motordome to Westy Pop-top

This might be some use for those with a flat roof: http://www.driveaway-awnings.co.uk/khyam-convertor-kador/ . I did experiment with threading my fig-8 onto a length of 8mm rope rather than the gutter, but it created a bit of a rain-gap and did not clear the door properly. I might therefore try the ...

AAZ Smoking when Cold

Hi there, I have been running an AAZ (1.9 TD) since 2003. Previously, it used to smoke briefly on initial start-up but then run clean. However, last year, I had the engine rebuilt with a new head. A company also 'serviced' the pump, as it had started to drip fuel from the arm. Now, there is almost n...

Attaching Khyam Motordome to Westy Pop-top

Hi there, I have been using a Khyam Motordome awning for the past 4 years, and purchased some plastic fig-8 sections to connect the kador strip of the tent to the gutter of the bus. This provides a nice, neat waterproof seal, but I don't like it for a number of reasons. First, it becomes detached ea...

Amazing, thanks - exactly the concept I had in mind. I would prefer one slightly taller but may be able to improvise an extension using this one as a base.

Bed Guard for Toddler - Westy

Trying to sort out a decent sleeping arrangement for my lad, who is 21 months old and quite boisterous. In time, I'm going to get a cab hammock for him but at this time he would probably roll or climb off. For the time being I am thinking of putting him up in the roof bed (pop-top), but need some wa...

Re: AAZ Cold Start Solenoid?

I'll look at that, thanks. TBF, the AAZ one has been on there for 13.5 years and has always run well controlled by just the throttle cable, although I appreciate it may not win any races. I believe also that the boost actuator does nothing in this model as the plunger is cylindrical so does not move...
