Re: confusing overheat problem

Think you could be on the button there. I overfilled the coolant, then drained through - airlock could be the culprit. I'll try and bleed it at the weekend.

confusing overheat problem

Now, a few weeks ago I jumped to conclusions about the state of my (sierra) engine. Having replaced the battery, adjusted and cleaned the plugs, and generally just had a good root around the engine bay the van started and seems to run fine. Took it for a spin - and its cold outside today. After abou...

Re: Think my engine has gone bang

Well, the coolant puddle under the van was oily as was the puddle under the reservoir, these could have been coolant over existing oil (unlikely). I havent drained it yet to be absolutely sure - waiting for spring and some sunlight - wrestling under it in the rain and dark is proving a waste of time...

Re: Think my engine has gone bang

So, I still haven't had the time to go and root around too much in the engine - however I did start up my van on Monday. After two weeks standing, it started first time and after a little while to warm up seemed to be running fine. I wasn't able to go for a drive, but left it running for fifteen min...

Re: Think my engine has gone bang

I've not had the chance to delve too deeply since Saturday - but there was steam coming from the oil filler which didnt strike me as too great. loss of power was most distinct in second - was still able to pull in first, but was intent on getting it home in one piece! Compression test would be a goo...

Re: Think my engine has gone bang

Cheers Fritz - solid advice there! I'll be looking later in the week, I'll try and get pics as I go. Luckily I have the haynes manual - just need to ascertain how bad things are before I get too depressed....

Think my engine has gone bang

Erm, sounds like a silly question - and I think I know the answer. I was out and about in the van on saturday. Loss of power, then it stalled (on a roundabout - but that's a different story!). Couldn't restart easily, managed to get it off the roundabout. Tried to get home, engine kept dying everyti...

Re: And the leak goes on

What an absolutely superb piece of advice - exactly what the doctor ordered. I will be doing exactly as you did as soon as this long promised good weather arrives.......
I'll try and post some pics to help the next in line.
Cheers!

And the leak goes on

Right, so I read all the posts about leaks into the drivers footwell. Had a good rummage around the windscreen seal, took off the wiper arm, the washer jet housing etc etc. Even the aerial support and sealed underneath. There is rust evident under the seal, but not the critical rusting that others s...

Re: electric hookup on number plate flap - anyone got a picture?

Aah - all became clear when I went out to have a look in the rain (only had the van a week or so). The flap is no more - to be replaced by a mesh to help the engine cool (presumably). It all makes sense!

Re: Aargh!! Tick Bite!!

My mum's just been diagnosed with Lymes disease after getting a tick bite IN THE GARDEN! how unlucky is that. Thankfully they caught it early - but it still sounds pretty rough.

Re: Really last minute recommendations for stone henge area

Theres over 200 square miles of nothing in the middle of the plain. I spent my (mispent) youth learning to off road in there. I'd take my wagon and find a nice hill and enjoy having no-one for miles in any direction! Not strictly allowed, but no-ones going to know you're there :) Its the best playgr...

Re: Fuel tank breather gromet

I reckon that's how this must've broken in the first place - looks like a new ish tank, and I bet the Y pieces were put in before the tank was lifted up and its squished against the chassis breaking it. Not ideal!
