Re: Window fitting - DIY or not?

That's an Autosleeper in your picture I think, so will be non-factory windows. The principal of fitting is easy, in practice its a bit trickier, the only real advise I have with the side windows is you may need to give them a bit more force than you initially feel happy doing!  They make a tool for ...

Rattly over bumps

My '89 tin top is very rattly over bumps, and you really do feel every bump up front. Standard height caravelle springs on it.   I'm aware that this means the front suspension needs an overhaul, but I only have so much time and budget each month, so what is the best order to approach this in?  Ball ...

15” ET37 Toliman - spacers

Hello, seen some cheap cheap cheap Tolimans - the 15” et37 ones.

So from wiki and search I know I need a 5mm spacer on the front, but what is not clear is what I need on the back?

Any wise people on here who know??

Exhaust gasket 1.9 wbx - dimensions?

Hello all, I fitted a new stainless exhaust with the gaskets it came with, but they were, on balance, a bit rubbish.  The ones on #1 and #3 failed, but they were easy to get to, as it was just a case of removing the 'j tubes'. Now #4 has gone as well, but to get to it is a major headache. With old a...

Fuel tank breather leak

I have a new tank fitted to the van. If you brim the tank, it leaks through the rubber seal between the breather pipe and top of the tank - part 6 on this diagram:  https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/brickwerks-blog/fuel-tanks-and-associated-gubbings/ I've tried a new seal and gently repositioning the who...

My usual list:
Brickwerks first, always.
Then, in order of preference: Heritage, Cool-air, C&C, Serial Combi, vwbusshop.de, eBay, some bloke down the pub, anywhere else, JustKampers.

Surprised to see JK so far up the list!

Re: vw t25 wbx engine won't turn over after top end rebuild with gearbox fitted

When you say it turns backwards, is that a full two revolutions, or just back a little from the point it gets stuck?  If it were me, I'd probably whip the plugs out, and then whip the rockers off (so all valves are closed) and see it it turns over by hand then, saves having to remove engine at this ...

E10 fuel- what needs replacing?!

Much E10 hysteria on the internet, but other counties have been running it for longer than us. Two issues appear to be its effect on rubber and the tendency for it to hold onto water and promote corrosion.  Rubber bits: Fuel lines will need replacing (already done with BW 100% ethanol proof magic pi...

Re: Early vs late DG Engine

I had a catastrophic failure of the cooling system on the motor way :-(  The metal flange on the rear of the engine corroded completely resulting in rapid loss of coolant. I therefore don't trust the rest of the system after forking out for a new engine and some of it is visibly tired, so will be l...

Re: Mobile mechanic or club member to set up dizzy/timing on 2.0 Aircooled t3

On a petrol I'd suggest giving it a go - £25 for a timing light and you're away. Its only a case of lining up up some marks whilst twiddling the distributor.

Happy to write more detailed advice if you fancy a go?

Re: Early vs late DG Engine

You say you cooked the last engine - is that a result of the cooling system, or some other error? Assuming the cooling system worked before and wasn't the reason you are installing a new engine, I personally would unbolt the old block and bolt the new one in (or get your mechanic to do it!) Asking y...

Excellent news.

I would sort out the dipstick though so you have a way of accurately checking the oil!

I'd second this - I have one, just bolted on and that was that. Sounds nice too.

As below though, snapped studs are a big issue if they happen, so a lot of people don't want to touch it or charge silly money.

Re: Engine oil light staying on

Switch is normally closed - i.e. the pressure pushes apart the contacts and turns the light off.  Quick check, unplug the wire from the switch, light should go off. If light stays on you have issues with the wiring.  If it goes off with wire unplugged it is either a faulty switch, or you actually ha...

Re: Stumble, stall under throttle

If that hole goes all the way through into the carb it might not be all of the answer, but it’s definitely contributing!!

Try sticking something over it and see what happens - it’s on the engine side of the carb so will be drawing in unmetered air and giving you lean conditions.
