Realistic lifespan of Westys
I bought a 1984 Westifalia and am in the process of putting considerable money into the thing. As I do this I keep wondering how long I'll be able to continue to get parts and such. I see that VW is discontinuing parts (like radiator hoses, etc) for my model year and I am concerned that I'm dumping ...

Water temp sender/gauge and oil pressure/temp gauges
I am concerned that the current gauges in my 84 vanagon do not give me enough detailed information to avert a disaster (blowing out the engine). The water temp gauge in the dash of my 84 vanagon has no temp markings (actual degrees). If I buy a VDO water temp gauge will the current sender work so th...

Re: Low Coolant Sensor Wire
I found the green and brown wires. They were cut from the sensor twisted together to send a false reading. They enter a plastic tube along with some other sensor wires. Thanks again.

Re: Low Coolant Sensor Wire
Thanks AngeloEvs! will search for wires similar to those you describe. If they just cut them off I should be able to find them in the engine compartment (somewhere). I will also look up front for the control unit. It seems that the previous owner (or his/her mechanic) liked to disable various sensor...

Low Coolant Sensor Wire
I recently purchased an '84 Vanagon (Westfalia). The low coolant sensor that goes in the rear coolant tank has had the wire cut. Obviously someone didn't want the coolant light coming on or something. Does anyone know where this wire is supposed to connect so I can patch it back in? The wire is comp...

Second electrical plug in, in the dash
I have been unable to determine what the smaller electrical plug in is on my 1984 Westfalia Wolfsburg edition. It is between the lighter and the glove box. It has a wire attached and I've seen in in photos of other dashes, but nowhere can I find a description of what it is for. I know it's a simple ...
