Re: No big trip this year - so Cornwall will have to do!
There's nothing wrong with Cornwall Gismo, but it doesn't have Vlad the Impaler's castles does it? (though from memory there is that shipwreck near St Austell they used in a Hammer Dracula film) In fact I'm getting very excited, I love the north Cornwall coastline so much, but I haven't been down th...

No big trip this year - so Cornwall will have to do!
Unfortunately I haven't been able to get away this summer. The plan was to take the bus to Transylvania for a month from August through September, but in June I was served with redundancy which I have been fighting until now. This summer has been miserable. No holiday, lots of work, stress, pain, to...

Re: Norway tips and pics
Great pics! Norway is so beautiful, plus I can fully endorse the ease of wildcamping in Norway, Sweden and Finland (Denmark is trickier, but it can be done). In Sweden they even leave you piles of free firewood to go with your freecamping. But Norway has the most dramatic landscapes by a long shot.

Re: The Orkneys
I can't remember exactly when the ploughing match is, but it would be the latter half of august. This should whet your appetite: http://www.orkneyjar.com/tradition/festivalofhorse.htm When you get there, buy the Orcadian newspaper, published weekly, it'll tell you about all the events, agricultural ...

Re: The Orkneys
I was up there last year, had a great time. Wild camping is easy, just find a beach, stop, camp. The locals may come to have a chat, but only because they're interested. Even had an impromptu night (er yes - I can recommend a mechanic there too) in Kirkwall tesco car park which wasn't so bad either....

Thanks for the info!. Doh, the obvious Halfords! I've just given them a ring and they'll sort me out. I'll be on my way again soon!

HT Leads
I'm travelling through the Scottish Highlands right now and I'm having problems with my main HT lead (I think!) . I'm having great trouble finding a supplier that A.) can identify what lead I'd need, and B.) can supply a lead reasonably swiftly - those suppliers who think they know which lead I requ...

converted to Litres = 1974L which at UK (ish) prices of 105.9 p/pl comes to £2,089!  :run hope the fuel was cheaper outside the UK AND that you have an LPG conversion! : Er, no, on both counts! I've still not checked the bank statements, but I estimate at least £2K merely on the basi...

Re: My first trip, an arctic adventure
Didn't excessively plan. Had a vague idea of route (not kept to) and knew that I wanted full midnight sun, which meant we had 3 weeks to get up top, that was quite a leisurely 5000km really. In fact, in the vague planning I had done I estimated 8-9000km for the whole trip, but ended up doing nearly ...

Re: My first trip, an arctic adventure
Yep, first time, I'm not one for toes in the pool... Gotta jump. The only problem is setting the bar so high, what's next? I've done a lot of camping before, but never campering. The convenience of the T25, not to mention the handsome looks, were just brilliant. It took me a few days to get used to ...

Re: Scandanavia
The Lofoten islands (Norway) are really beautiful, great for walking. Both Norway and Sweden are full of impressive national parks/nature reserves. Jotenheimen, in southern Norway is perhaps one of the most spectacular, with glaciers, 2400m mountains and stomach twisting hairpins on the approach roa...
