Re: Syncro Caravelle For Sale

It seems that the vendor has heeded the wise counsel of the Syncro elders and lowered the asking price.

a bit of touch up before the photo shoot might not have gone amiss?

Yeah, fair point about the paint but then if I was buying I'd rather know what state the seams are in.

Re: 2.1 DJ thrust washer & shims

Thanks Aidan, I've sent you a PM. The end float I would guestimate is around 1mm.

Re: 2.1 DJ thrust washer & shims

By the bearing face I mean the machined surface of the flywheel that orientates towards the retaining ring, shim and thrust washer that are positioned at the rear end of the crankshaft external to the cases. I have given the part number for the thrust washer (as listed in ETKA) in my earlier message...

2.1 DJ thrust washer & shims

I've just had the bearing face of my flywheel machined as it was looking a little worn. The thrust washer and shims are also in need or replacement. Can anyone please advise on availability of the thrust washer (025 105 283). VWH will have some in Jan but I'd like to get the job done before then. An...

Yes, normally, but I suspect that the end play is too great to correct with shims. I will try to measure it more precisely.

2.1DJ crankshaft end play

I've taken my 2.1DJ engine out to do some work on the heads and have discovered that there is a lot of end play on the crankshaft. I have not measured it but estimate that it is 1mm or so. It's a visible movement back and forth along with a bit of a clonk. I have fairly recently replaced a leaking c...

Eberspacher D1L heater pump problem

I have an '87 converted Syncro ambulance with an Eberspacher D1L heater fitted. The heater has not worked since I bought the van. Well, the fan works when the dashboard switch is turned on but no heat comes out. I have checked the fuel pump and there is no fuel flow through it so the problem might s...

Re: Hose clip pliers

Yes, they can be useful but a bit cumbersome. I decided on ANGLED JAW SPRING TYPE HOSE CLIP/CLAMP PLIERS-LOCKABLE from an ebay seller. A link to the item/supplier would have helped I am still looking .......................... Putting the emboldened words above into the ebay search cell will take y...

Hose clip pliers

After years of struggling with those factory fitted reusable hose clips, using pliers or vice grips to release and refit, I have decided that the time has come to actually buy a special tool for the job. Has anyone got a particular recommendation for a type that is handiest for getting at a T25 cool...

DJ valve clearances - has the manual got it wrong?

I've just put back together one side of my DJ engine after sorting out a head problem and was puzzled to find that I had no compression on either cylinder. After head scratching (mine not the engine) I checked the valve set up instructions again as per Haynes and Bentley - both of which instruct to ...

Re: balls and bushes

cup and ball should easily mate, get the skirt of the boot pulled down to join them then fit the rear bush plate to the gearbox boss, push the whole shebang upwards as you nip up the two bolts, plate goes on front of boss check the plastic bung in the bottom of the cup hasn't come out or that the b...

Re: balls and bushes

I didn't catch the start of this thread but it seems like a good place to put my question. I have just refitted the gearbox to my DJ Syncro and am having a pig of a job getting the rear ball and socket linkage on the gear selector to to line up so that they stay together. As far as I can tell I am p...
