Re: Solar controller recommendations

Just a bit of a heads up re MPPT controllers from the likes of Ebay. I cannot "name names" I am afraid, BUT, I am aware that there are Chinese suppliers that simply lie about the controllers they are selling and they claim they are MPPT, even labelling them as such, but in reality they are...

Re: Compression fridge or portable coolbox advice

I got the one in the link below (though it was only £280 when I bought it), but worth looking at the other "suggestions" further down that Amazon page. It goes cold VERY quickly and can go as low as minus 15 if you need it and it only uses about 2 Amps when it's on (but of course the therm...

Re: Low voltage disconnect

This company do a range of them, though they no longer supply them in enclosures = http://www.reuk.co.uk/wordpress/reuk-shop-low-voltage-disconnects-lvd/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I no longer use an actual LVD as I don't want it to just cut off everything without warni...

Re: Diesel heater and leisure battery

Yes, when mounting these to a vehicle with anything other than bare flat metal, a turret plate not only makes it easier, it is also much safer. It isolates any material (wood etc) from the heat of the exhaust outlet.

Re: Diesel heater and leisure battery

My Chinese 2KW one heats the van nicely, gets it up to comfortable from an outside temperature of around zero in 10 to 15 minutes. It pulls around 10 Amps on start up, for 3 or 4 minutes, then about 2 Amps on high, quickly dropping to around 1 Amp when it is up to temperature and "ticking over&...

Me too :ok
It goes to minus temperatures (if dialled in on the temperature control) very quickly, like 30 minutes and it can stay like that even on the hottest day.
:ok

Re: Cabin Heaters, Diesel powered, new Chinese ones = any good ?

I have been following 3 "groups" on Facebook re these heaters. To date I have not heard of anyone having a fire problem with the unit.

As long as it is installed properly, they are perfectly safe.

Re: 12/240v cool box recommendation

Fridge / Coolbox = forget running them off 12V unless it is a "compressor" type. These start at around £260 but only use a fraction of the power of a conventional camping fridge / coolbox. Around 2 Amp hour versus about 7 Amp hour (the latter, non compressor type being roughly equivalent t...

Re: Cabin Heaters, Diesel powered, new Chinese ones = any good ?

I started this thread a good while back, asking about them. They are now less than £100 each 8) I can now report that I fitted mine late last summer and it has been great, no issues at all. I am very active over on the Facebook group that offers support to folk fitting them, and folks that are havin...

P.S. = They don't start to give off the nice smell until they have started to absorb moisture.

Just thought I'd mention that ;)
