Thanks for this - it was a Pioneer amp, and I'll update on models etc shortly (no pun intended) - pretty sure it was the 12V / earth which shorted, the speakers were ok.
Cheers again,
Paddy

Re: Amplifier short circuiting fail...
No worries though - I'm guilty as charged on this and more than fair game for a ribbing!

Re: Amplifier short circuiting fail...
Thanks all, and yes - I'm an idiot... I didn't think to disconnect the battery first. It's an amp for some speakers in the rear of the van. I'll try all this, the fuse near the battery etc. What a muppet!
Thanks folks! Brilliant as always!

Amplifier short circuiting fail...
Hiya, Having just got the electrics sorted in my van at last, I tried to change my amplifier in the back last night. However, as I was undoing the earth wire, it managed to just out of my grasp and ended up touching the still connected live wire, causing sparks to fly - presumably a short circuit, a...

I've been having this trouble too - it's in the garage being fixed though along with everything else, which is little use - sorry.

Re: Front lower suspension ball joint / suspension arm pin/bush
Thanks Rob - that's a bugger, I'm in north London. Nay matter, I'll order it online and try and find a quiet spot to fix it. I was gonna go to my girlfriend's parents to do it this weekend otherwise...

Re: Front lower suspension ball joint / suspension arm pin/bush
Brilliant, thanks folks! That's really encouraging anyway, hopefully reducing the welding to just the patch at the back then. Mine's a 1984 1.9 w/c (I must update my sig!)
Where are Brickwerks based? I could try to do this at the weekend if I could get the parts in time...

Front lower suspension ball joint / suspension arm pin/bush
Hi there, So my MOT didn't go so well. I reckon I can sort out most of it, bar any welding etc (rear jacking point needs a patch). Two of the things it has failed on are: - Nearside front suspension has excessive play in lower suspension ball joint - Offside front (rear bush) suspension arm has exce...

Re: Electrical advice
Blimey - how rude of me, apologies! Thanks for all the replies - I've been away on holiday / at festivals so missed the inital responses. It's a Devon conversion, and the amp doesn't have it's own fuse. It seems like the wiring has just been done weirdly - the 2nd battery isn't even hooked up! Anywa...

Re: Backfiring, lack of power
Hmmm, this sounds like something I'm going through at the moment. It's a recent 1.9l WC recon from Elite, but it's terribly underpowered, sometimes judders too and the fuel economy is appalling. Taking it back to them in a couple of weeks...

Ha ha, no worries - I work days in marketing (for my sins) and nights as a DJ (where I sin!) so I know the odd times feeling!

Hi there,
Pretty sure the SGS site sells individual struts. Hopefully that'll sort you out too mark?
Cheers,
Paddy

Electrical advice
Hi there, I've a 1984 1.9 WC on which I seem to be having some trouble with the internal electrics and was hoping for some tips, please! The van already had a decent stereo in it when I bought it, with an amp in the back but the amp stopped working recently - the head unit is still fine and I've tri...
