Tailgate gas struts snapped off at ball joint
Typical, the gas struts have broke. They look like they were so rusty at the ball joint end that they have snapped off. Unfortunatley this means I have no ball joint left to attach a new gas strut. Anyone know where I can get new ball joints, and how do I attach them on. Or if they are easy enough t...

Re: Nice campsites in the Hampshire / Sussex area
BTW agree, Swiss farm fabulous. So much to keep you busy you can stay there for a week without have to drive off site with the van (which is one of the things I hate doing). Their is a camp site in Hurley, just down the road, which is lovely too. Right on the river (their is a fence between so kids ...

Re: Nice campsites in the Hampshire / Sussex area
Yes, camping is for me - altho I prefer the type where there is hot running water to wash your dishes, and where they're isn't people who can't light a fire without a tonne of lighter fuel. You can have a "kind of" bonfire at any site really - I've never had a problem just sticking a bunch...

Re: Exhaust fumes increase with driving
Had mobile man come and service van today. Well your spot on, an oil leak - a mega one at that. My dipstick was showing min today - yet I only checked it a couple of weeks ago. There is also a nice puddle on the floor to the rear right or the engine as you stand and look at it (its RHD if that makes...

Reupholstering pop top roof - advice please
Hi, I have completed re-carpeting the lower cabin walls & ceilings, and am now contemplating the pop top. I have a Devon side lifting, full length tardis of a poptop, with a little sky light that opens. I am a bit nervous as the carpet appears to be glued staight onto the fibreglass. Has anyone ...

Re: Camping in France- will the van make it?!
Well I have breakdown cover. Don't know whether its any good or not - didn't find there was much choice with a vehicle of our age!! Its Alps Road Rescue I think - I can't find the actual policy doc at the moment. But once I do I'll give them a call and ask them what it covers. Any idea what I should...

Re: Exhaust fumes increase with driving
Oohh, a oil leak has been mentioned to me this year at MOT. But because there is never oil on the road where its been parked, and because the oil level doesn't dip drastically after a drive,I have kind of ignored it.  They always go on about rust and age, so I kinda take these comments ...

Re: Exhaust fumes increase with driving
Yes, where your homemade switch is I have a big green bulb. Maybe it isn't original? Goodness knows what it links too..Maybe overheating?!? I'll see if I can get someone to "follow it", it's going to the garage soon. On the headlamp side (left), just above, do you know what those 2 blank s...

Re: Exhaust fumes increase with driving
Holding the dipstick- I will do that next time. My green light is on the dash near the fog lights (I'm not looking at it right now, so it might be on the other side, but it is on the plastic, not behind the glass screen where the speedo is). It has never illuminated in my time. On the other side - n...

Exhaust fumes increase with driving
Hi, I have my 1982 Aircooled 2ltr Devon camper. And I have noticed that after a couple of hours driving, when I pull up at lights, jam etc. I get billows of exhaust fumes coming past my window. When I say billows, they are not black, just a smokey light brown colour, and it is not a fog of them eith...

Re: Camping in France- will the van make it?!
Well I am certainly feeling more reassured!! always said the wife looks dodgy made me laugh :rofl We are going to pay the extra and go via dieppe anyway - hopefully save on miles and tolls. Although 2 of you have said skip the tollroads. I just remember driving in france in the car, and once we took...

Camping in France- will the van make it?!
Hi, I am considering taking the van down to Central France near Limoge and back. Looks like a 1000 mile round trip. Will the van make it? Its a good old banger, but I've not driven her in france. Can anyone help out with a few questions: On the Toll Roads (which I intend to stick to), how many miles...
