Re: Is it wrong to go pop top?
gas struts are not as stable as a h bar they twist with the slightest movement ,i would never put my kids in the roof of a van with them fitted, having seen what happens when they fail (or blow) still i thought fitting them from a complete roof kit off fleebay, to a t4 would be better ..........i r...

Re: Is it wrong to go pop top?
hi having done loads of mozaic conversions for poptops ,i think you would still have to fit a frame (like we do )to take the lifting bar or the height will be wrong,(do not fit gas rams) i now can supply all parts for westy roofs ,h bars, rear hinges, bolts and caps, and new for next season coloured c...

Re: Is it wrong to go pop top?
To make a flat bed in a standard T25 panel van/Velle stylee roof you need 4" x 1" in the gutter each side and a piece of 2" x 1" screwed to that sat on the roof inside each of those, there should be a 1/2" difference in the height of the 2 pieces. Brace across at both ends ...

Re: Is it wrong to go pop top?
I have only seen one copy of a Westy roof and you could tell straight away that it was a copy, is it flocked on the inside? Did you get the aluminium strips with it for the canvas? If your not sure it probably is an original roof. Rob. Had a look at it today. Yes it's flocked on the inside, it's a ...

Re: Is it wrong to go pop top?
Is it an original westy roof? Sounds like you have the piece I was on about, it sits on the curved roof providing you with a flat profile for the bed. Rob. That would be good. Yes it's an original roof.... Well I think it is, it looks old enough. How can I tell. All the fittings look right and it h...

Re: Is it wrong to go pop top?
Damn! Why did I think this was going to be a relatively easy project... I'm not planning on going to Busfest, but looking at your pics and seeing as you seem so helpful I might have too :) What's the third piece of fibreglass I have?? I've got the main roof (pop top) the front section (roof rack) an...

Re: Is it wrong to go pop top?
Thanks lhd, this is just the sort of info I'm after. The photos you've posted of the flat recess look very similar to where the track fits on my factory sunroof, I'll post some photos tomorrow. I was thinking of using that to mount the bed on. What's the roof like to the rear on a Westy (lowest part...

Re: Is it wrong to go pop top?
Could you not fit the Westy roof whilst keeping the sunroof in place and use the sunroof as a "blind" that covers the traditional opening of the Westy roof? Also could you tell me how high the Westy roof is, I have a separate thread on here asking for different pop top heights so I can bu...
