Re: tappet adustment

Two full turns, that's 720°. However, that may not give optimal results if they've been running and wearing at a very different setting. I recommend you make a note of the current setting when adjusting. Then if you have problems you can return to your original settings. Btw, on worn tappets I prefe...

Re: Question for the Engine Builders

Quick answer - GoWesty kits are very poor value for money over here in UK. They exist because the DJ wasn't sold in that America, so they're all trying to improve on the MV whilst keeping to a fairly low compression ratio. Here standard DJ is better than their modest upgrades, and a helluva lot chea...

Re: Question for the Engine Builders

I'll raise you to 2475cc with British made 98mm pistons, barrels and and 82mm crank. I have cams but you'll need type 1 rods with 22mm pins. Should be back in stock soon. PS Aidan should be taking delivery of his one soon Ha! Knew you couldn't put it down for long [emoji6][emoji16] Sent from my ONE...

I know. Didn't want to admit it in public in case I was alone, but I think it nearly works.

Yet I haven't dealt with them for 10, because of lots of problems that I can recall.

Re: Early to late VW t25 exhaust mounting kit.

I haven't yet mentioned the poor quality of that JK exhaust. I've removed a couple due to problems, such as poorly manufactured silencer - wadding all moving to the tailpipe end and blocking flow, causing all joins to leak and lack of power. Horrible fit, leaking slip joints, cracking at/near welds,...

Re: Early to late VW t25 exhaust mounting kit.

Nothing attaches to the heat shield (apart from the coolant tank). It's two brackets on the engine carrier, with straps over the silencer.

Have you checked if your hanger has the holes?

Re: Early to late VW t25 exhaust mounting kit.

At 1986 you should originally have had a late exhaust system, and you would have had the straps to fit that new exhaust. Maybe it's had a replacement engine, and someone fitted an early, complete with exhaust? Anyway, if you can get hold of a late engine hanger it has the casting holes to fit the pr...

Re: Engine only runs under too much advance

Well, every day is a school day. In my 54 years I've never heard of this, and I'm not sure how I've missed it as it's the sort of stuff I usually know, so thanks for plugging that gap!

Re: Did Vw Line bore there own stamped DJ rebuilds?

But who's going to hang on to all the line bored cases while we wait? Chances are they'll mostly have been weighed in by then. Although there may be a magical oversize bearing tree growing somewhere in Essex, as one well-known company's website states: "All engines receive (as standard): ... Crack t...

That's a VWSpeedshop exhaust. Should be guaranteed for life. Maybe ring Paul and ask?

Re: Engine only runs under too much advance

Well I chucked that into the ring hoping someone else would pick up the maths job - it worked [emoji16] If you pop a dti on no.1 (or 3 if easier) inlet valve spring retainer top, and turn engine (by hand [emoji849]) until it reads 1mm lift from base reading, the pulley should be sitting very near th...

Yes, it should fit. Must be crud in the threads, or something down the hole.
