Re: Buying second hand engine

I stripped it down as much as possible and cleaned it up at home to try to save some money, but it still cost 5.5k to fit. Labour costs and the one thing I forgot to order from the UK - a 580chf clutch! After I bought it, I found out that a decent engine refurber in the UK chould have supplied me a...

Re: Recon 1.9 wbx 1984 DF Engine code

I'm here, Steve. Thanks for the plug! Yes, I have a rebuilt early DG, which would be an ideal replacement for the DF. I can supply a DG manifold, carb & pancake to match if required. Message me or call if interested. As soon as Covid restrictions allow I'm on a mainland trip delivering an MV, so...

Re: Camshaft on a 2.1DJ From Heritage Parts

Oh. Mine are being shipped today [emoji849] So to others looking for 2.1 hydro cams, I now have 8 available [emoji16]. I would advise either using your own gear with a Vanistan adapter (I have a few available), or use the much better quality Webcam gear. The standard cheap gears are too small and wi...

Re: Camshaft on a 2.1DJ From Heritage Parts

I have no proof, but I think this is probably where most/all of the aftermarket WBX dished cams come from.

China Camshaft for VW 113109021G

I found it interesting, so thought I'd share. It's very possible that the £253 Heritage offering starts life as a $10 blank.

Is there meant to be a pic on the end of your post? I'm not seeing it.

Re: Camshaft on a 2.1DJ From Heritage Parts

I’ve emailed them and said I have £258’s worth of cam that is useless; come and take it back. What’s the lead tine on the cams you have then? I was hoping to have this engine finisher already and it’s been problem after problem! I’m well over into £1500 or more spent on heads, pistons, barrels, rep...

Re: Camshaft on a 2.1DJ From Heritage Parts

The Heritage cams are ground on the same Chinese blanks that the DG WBX and the type 1 (Beetle) cams are. The quality is mediocre at best, but it's all there is available. The gear is massively undersized (about a -6 or smaller) so it is a universal fit-all and will probably rattle like an air-coole...

Re: Need some advice after a 13 year absence from the forum!

Mine doesn't have an exhaust sensor, that likely to be an issue? Yes. It'll run, but on default open loop fuelling map so always on the rich side. You said you had a blue plug in the loom which was not connected to anything? Is that still the case? Could be temp2 sender plug. If that's disconnected...

Re: 2.1 DJ idle/CO

An additional 8° advance will increase your idle speed significantly, and affect your emissions! I'd try knocking it back to maybe 12-15°, rather than the stock 10° (as it runs well with more advance). Then see how your idle and mixture readings are.

Re: 1915 Dg 5 Speed 1990 Oil Warning Light Buzzer Of Doom

@davidoft1 I think we must have interpreted this differently. When the OP said "Add flushing & run till warm... Drop it all out.... Without the drain plug pour 10 litres of diesel through.... [emoji34]" I read it that the last thing put in was diesel, and I think you must have missed t...

Re: 1.6 or 2.0?

His 1.9 DG is an auto, no mention of the Aircooled gearbox.  It's all there in the pic! The yellow plastic label is the dipstick & fill tube for the auto box. I don't think he has a DG any more as he sold it once it became too reliable - hence the desire for an aircold? [emoji12] Sent from my O...

Diesel hey, maybe 50 years ago, techs moved on, in my opinion it’s perfectly good for it’s purpose I'm not sure if you are recommending diesel as a flush or not? Or are you saying modern diesel is a better flushing oil than the old stuff? Confoozed [emoji848] Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapata...
